This rare "Sleigh-O-Lites" decorative string light set by SNAPIT is a complete survivor from the golden age of American holiday décor. Introduced in 1949, it combines whimsical design with mid-century practicality: an eight-light indoor series outfit housed in a molded red sleigh with gold and white accents, mounted on blue runners. Lighting: Eight colorful cone-shaped bulbs (red, green, yellow, orange, blue). Certification: Approved by Underwriters' Laboratories Inc. Packaging: Original lithographed box featuring Santa's sleigh in flight over a snowy village, with bold side panels noting UL approval, catalog number, and "Open This End for Testing" instructions. Dimensions: 14" x 3 1/2" x 4. Complete Set: Sleigh, bulbs, cord, and box all present. Original Packaging: The illustrated box is a collectible in its own right-its vibrant artwork and technical labeling confirm authenticity and date the set precisely to the late 1940s-early 1950s. Era Appeal: Introduced in 1949, produced into the early 1950s. Scarcity: Few examples survive with both sleigh and box in this condition. Display Value: A sculptural holiday centerpiece, equally at home in a vintage Christmas collection or mid-century modern décor. SNAPIT was a mid-20th century American lighting company known for its inventive holiday novelties.
Competing with giants like NOMA, SNAPIT carved out a niche by producing playful, small-batch designs that merged sculptural whimsy with practical electric function. Their products-ranging from figural night lights to themed string sets-are now prized for their creativity and rarity. Postwar manufacturers like SNAPIT leaned into novelty lighting that doubled as decoration.
