Rare Antique German Halloween Paper Party Hat 1920s Witch Devil Cauldron MINT. A wonderful and genuinely scarce antique German Halloween paper crown/hat, dating to the 1910s-1920s Golden Age of Halloween paper ephemera. Pieces of this type were produced in Germany and exported to the United States, where they were used as party hats or, when the arch was not attached to a crepe body, as treat satchels. This example presents as the decorative crown/arch alone - displayable, frameable, and stunning in its own right. The central motif features a smiling Jack-o'-Lantern suspended from a tripod over flames - a rare and dramatic central image far less commonly seen than the typical cat or witch face designs. Flanking the cauldron scene on the left is a black cat devil/witch figure with a pitchfork, and on the right a gnome/elf witch in a pointed hat. The lower decorative band carries a continuous frieze of black cats in animated poses - crouching, leaping, and tussling. All imagery is printed in vivid black on a warm orange stock with excellent color retention. A hanging loop is intact at the apex of the arch. The piece measures approximately 10 inches wide by 6.5 inches tall. This type of German Halloween paper hat/crown is actively collected and increasingly difficult to find, particularly with unusual central imagery such as this tripod-cauldron-JOL scene. A fine addition to any serious Halloween paper ephemera collection. In remarkable "New Old Stock" condition.
The paper is crisp with no tears, creases, or tape marks. The colors remain bold and unfaded.
It appears never to have been worn or fully assembled.
